The Comeback

The last time you heard from me on this blog, other than to post links to the Health Wonk Review, I was contemplating the future of this blog. The reason, quite simply, was that I was looking for a job, and there were some places I was considering where I felt that the blog might be considered a liability. Two things have come from that experience. First, I have realized that I really, really like to write. I missed the blog while I was away. No one pays me to do this. In fact, even though I display some ads in the hope of getting a check from Google one day, I’ve yet to make any income from this endeavor. Second, I’ve realized that I need to be more objective in this space. That doesn’t mean that I’ll cease injecting my opinions, but there have admittedly been times when my writing has been biased. As an aspiring academic, I have a responsibility not only to conduct rigorous empirical research, but also to communicate the results of my own and others’ research without playing favorites. To that end, I’d like to extend an invitation to those who might read this to become involved with the blog. The more voices that are engaged here, the less my own will dominate. If you’re interested in writing a guest post, send me a note. If you’re a regular reader, please consider commenting. I’ll do my best to structure posts so as to elicit your feedback.

If you’re wondering what’s next, here’s an update: In August, my dog, my wife, and I are moving to Rhode Island. I’m beginning a postdoctoral research fellowship at Brown University’s Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research. It promises to be a productive time, and I’m really looking forward to it. In the meantime, I’m busy packing and attending to all the business of moving, so there probably won’t be many more blog posts for awhile. But, this fall, I expect to be back to writing much more frequently, and I hope you’re as excited about that as I am. Until next time…….
